PITTSBURGH PA – ALDO COFFEE

675 WASHINGTON ROAD, MOUNT LEBANON

Steel town, USA.  Pittsburgh, PA.  Once a thriving city, the downtown is just starting to get its’ groove back. But I didn’t find my coffee in the hustle and bustle.  One must venture a few minutes out of the city and into the quaint Mount Lebanon neighborhood for the good stuff.

I was quite surprised to find Aldo Coffee amidst the monopoly of Starbucks in this area.  I walked in suspecting a decent cup of coffee, and to my surprise, received so much more.

Aldo brews beans from Stumptown and Intelligentsia, and features a brew bar — you can pick your favorite method (pour over, Chemex, etc)…or better yet, discover a new one!  They make stellar cappuccinos, with a perfect balance of creamy milk and bright espresso.

Aldo also roasts their own coffee.  I picked up a bag of Sulawesi Toarco, grown and picked from a coffee estate in Indonesia.  This is both a unique and enjoyable coffee that I think anyone would find tasty.  It has bold flavors — sweet and aromatic, while remaining a little bright.  If you happen to be a Starbucks drinker (and, ironically, a reader of this blog) this coffee could certainly ease you out of your ‘bucks allegiance, as it is a darker roast.

As they say in this city, see ‘yinz soon!

xx happy sipping
